The Ethics of ‘The Elite’ or Down with Government Schools

Sitting outside of my philosophy classroom this morning I overheard two students discussing their class schedules and the topic turned to curriculums at other universities. The first guy says to the other something to the effect that Harvard requires their business majors and MBA students to take a special ethics class because the “the elite” move into the big banks and need help in this area of their lives. Later, I heard the same guy say that he hoped we study Karl Marx because he has “read a lot about him” and “he’s legit.”

The irony of this kid’s infatuation with Karl Marx is that he later told the group that he attended a private high school before coming to this institution, also a private university. I guess the “free” government-supplied schools promised in The Communist Manifesto aren’t good enough for this “elite” communist.

I think it also proves that a private education does not guarantee a higher level of learning as most of the teachers even in private schools were subjected to the same type of instructors. They pass down the collectivized mind set just as the teachers in public schools do. Oh My!

What do you think?
