Sitting in a restaurant I saw CNN discussing the VP debates from last night and the caption read something like “Ryan, Biden debate taxes and auto bailouts.” I didn’t watch the debate, so I’m just going to have to assume that it was Joe Biden arguing for higher taxes and touting the “success” of the auto bailouts, which were an extension of TARP. If that’s true, it must mean that Paul Ryan was arguing for no taxes and denouncing the auto bailouts.
Oh, wait, the debate wasn’t on whether there should be an income tax at all, just how much should be fleeced from which group? And how could Ryan have decried the bailouts when his pleading with congress to pass TARP provided the funds necessary for that program?
Perhaps the saddest part of all was this comment from that he Foundation for a Free Society‘s Jason Rink: “You know what’s depressing as hell? When a moderator in a presidential debate can say ‘let’s move to another war….’”
