Taxes were fine, just not the insurance

While at the bank recently I heard a man upset that his mortgage payment was increasing, and demanded to know why he was paying almost $100 more per month. The person behind the desk told him that his escrow was increasing due to taxes and/or insurance premiums going up. When he was told that his property taxes had increased from the year prior he said something to the effect of “my taxes went up, that’s ok, but not my insurance!”

It seems he is perfectly fine with being forced to pay ever more to his parasitic government, but would not tolerate paying more for insurance. This is really sad. As someone who desires a free society, I would like to see it the other way. I would have liked to see hear him react with indignation that he was being extorted by the state to cough up more money. Insurance is something that is both voluntary and a valuable service. You are free to choose from hundreds of companies, each trying to earn your business by providing the greatest benefits at the lowest price. Government is ugly, and slow, and coercive.
